A Run for Liane - September 23, 2012

When Liane passed away in February 2003, friends and family were looking for a way to turn this terrible tragedy into something potentially positive. And so since September 2003, Liane’s family and friends have participated in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon's Charity Challenge to raise money for the Cancer Genetics Program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. We have had team members competing in the Marathon, Half-Marathon, and the 5km Run/Walk.

Jan Forrester (4th from left) and Sue Forrester (2nd from left) accept the 2008 award for the largest team in the Charity ChallengeOur team averaged 100 people strong and has been made up of all types of people: runners, walkers, old, young, friends, family, and even otherwise strangers! Michale Kapral (aka the "joggler") joggled his way into the Guinness World Record Book as a memberof our team.

Together we have surpassed our initial modest goals by raising an amazing $318,000 to support the Cancer Genetics Program (CGP) at the Hospital for Sick Children through the Sick Kids Foundation - Liane Forrester Fund.

Join the 10th "A Run for Liane 2012 Grand Finale" celebration!

To mark our 10th anniversary, instead of entering a team in this year’s STWM, we are planning a celebration walk/run in our local Adams Park, where a tree is planted in Liane’s memory.

The Run has been an excellent opportunity to raise money for a good cause, to stay connected and honour Liane in a positive way. We are so very grateful for all your support. We are pausing to recharge and look for new ways to honour Liane and continue our support of this wonderful cause.

We look forward to your generous support in 2012 (by joining the team, making a donation, or cheering us on) as we can continue to provide much needed funds to assist CGP researchers fund studies which can lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and cures for many forms of childhood cancers. Liane would be so very proud!
